Some people are at greater risk for developing glaucoma and should see their ophthalmologist on a regular basis for glaucoma testing. People at more risk of developing glaucoma include people who:

•Having high internal eye pressure (intraocular pressure)
•Being over age 60
•Being black or Hispanic or having sickle cell anemia
•Having a family history of the glaucoma
•Having corneas that are thin in the center
•Having certain medical conditions, such as diabetes, heart disease, or high blood pressure, or migraine headaches
•Having had an eye injury or certain types of eye surgery
•Early estrogen deficiency, such as can occur after removal of both ovaries (bilateral oophorectomy) before age 43
