This type of glaucoma is also known as acute glaucoma or narrow angle glaucoma. This type of glaucoma is caused when the iris bulges forward and narrows (or blocks) the drainage angle formed by the cornea and iris. This blockage doesn’t allow fluid to circulate resulting in a sudden increase in intraocular pressure. It is more rare than open angle glaucoma and is a medical emergency.
