In open-angle glaucoma there is an increase in internal eye pressure with possible damage to the optic nerve. The angle of the eye (where the iris meets the cornea) is as wide and open as it should be, but the eye’s drainage canals have become clogged over time. The clog causes an increase in internal eye pressure with possible damage to the optic nerve. This is the most common type of glaucoma. It affects about 4,000,000 Americans; many of whom do not even know they have the disease.
